Tour Plan

Your guide will meet you at Jinka Airport to begin the scenic drive to Arbore through the beautiful Weito River Valley, home to the Tsemay and Arbore tribes. Upon arrival, visit Gondoroba, the village of the Arbore chief, and spend time learning about their traditions and way of life. Admire the Arbore women, known for their striking beauty, dark complexion, and elaborate beaded jewelry. Women shave their heads before marriage and wear black robes adorned with colorful ornaments. Engage with the community, capture memorable photos, and gain insight into their ancient customs. In the evening, continue to Turmi for overnight at Buska Lodge.

After breakfast, drive to Korcho, a village overlooking a dramatic curve of the Omo River, to meet the Kara tribe. The Kara are celebrated for their creative body and face paintings using natural pigments. Spend time observing their art and lifestyle. In the afternoon, continue to a Hamar village for a homestay experience. Join the locals for an evening around the fire, listening to traditional songs and stories. Interact with Hamar men and women, learn about their culture, and enjoy their warmth and humor. If timing allows, you may witness a traditional bull-jumping ceremony, marking a young man’s transition into adulthood. Overnight in Turmi.

Depart early for Omorate, near the Kenyan border, to visit the Dassanach tribe pastoralists believed to have Bantu origins. Cross the Omo River bridge to explore their remote community, where you’ll observe their morning routines milking cattle, grinding grains, cooking over open fires, and children playing in the early light. Afterward, return north, stopping at Dimeka to experience one of the vibrant tribal markets (depending on the day: Monday, Tuesday, or Saturday). It’s a colorful scene filled with locals from different tribes trading goods and sharing stories. Continue to Jinka for overnight.

Begin early with a drive to Mago National Park, home of the Mursi tribe one of Ethiopia’s most famous and fascinating communities. Cross the Maki River and visit traditional Mursi villages, where you’ll meet the people known for their distinctive lip plates and body scarification. Learn about their symbolic rituals and stick-fighting ceremonies (donga), which play a key role in their culture. After a memorable morning with the Mursi, return to Jinka for lunch, then transfer to Jinka Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa.
