Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to your hotel. After some rest, begin exploring Addis Ababa with a guided city tour. Visit the National Museum, home of the famous fossil Lucy, the Ethnographic Museum, Menelik II Palace, Holy Trinity Cathedral, the bustling Merkato market, and Unity Park. Enjoy meals at selected local restaurants before returning to your hotel for an overnight stay in the capital.
Fly from Addis Ababa to Semera and begin your overland expedition into the Danakil Depression, one of the most extreme environments on Earth. Drive toward Afdera, stopping to explore the salt lake and visit a local Afar village. Continue deeper into the desert toward Hamed Ela, passing surreal landscapes, volcanic hills, and endless salt flats. Enjoy sunset views, swim in the salt lake, and dine under the stars. Overnight outdoors on traditional wooden beds.
Explore the otherworldly landscapes of Dallol, famous for its colorful sulfur springs, salt canyons, and bubbling hot pools at the lowest point in Africa. Observe traditional salt mining methods still used by local communities. After breakfast, drive across vast lava fields toward Erta Ale volcano.
