Arrive in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s lively capital. Visit the National Museum, home to the famous fossil Lucy, and drive to Entoto Hills for sweeping city views. Explore St. Mary’s Church and Menelik II Palace, then shop for traditional handwoven textiles at Shiro Meda Market. End your day at the bustling Merkato, one of Africa’s largest open-air markets.
Overnight: Hotel in Addis Ababa
Fly to Lalibela, the spiritual heart of Ethiopia. After check-in at Sora Lodge, begin exploring the first cluster of rock-hewn churches, including the magnificent Bete Giorgis (St. George), carved in the shape of a cross and perfectly preserved for over 800 years.
Overnight: Sora Lodge or similar
After breakfast, continue your exploration with the northern cluster of churches, featuring Bet Medhane Alem, the world’s largest rock-hewn church. Wander through hidden tunnels and ancient courtyards before flying back to Addis Ababa in the afternoon.

Fly to Semera and drive into the heart of the Danakil Depression, one of the hottest and lowest places on Earth. Stop in Afdera to witness traditional salt mining before reaching Hamed Ela. Spend a magical night under a blanket of stars.
Overnight: Camping in Hamed Ela
Explore Dallol, a surreal landscape of neon-colored hot springs, salt canyons, and bubbling sulfur pools. Continue to Erta Ale Volcano, one of the few continuously active lava lakes on the planet. Hike to the rim at sunset to watch molten lava glow beneath the stars — a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Overnight: Camping near Erta Ale Volcano
Enjoy sunrise over the Danakil plains, then drive back to Semera and fly to Addis Ababa. If time allows, enjoy a farewell dinner at a traditional Ethiopian restaurant with cultural dance before your evening transfer to the airport.
